The members of the Fresno Chapter of JACL consider its chapter as the first and oldest chapter of JACL and are very proud of that fact. The chapter started out as the Fresno American Loyalty League. The chapter has been in continuous existence since its establishment on May 5, 1923, a feat that no other chapter can claim.  In 1929 the national organization of JACL was established. We are the oldest and largest Asian American civil rights organization in the United States. JACL strives to promote a world that honors diversity by respecting values of fairness, equality and social injustice. Our ongoing mission is to secure and maintain the civil rights of all who are victimized by injustice and bigotry. The leaders and members of JACL also work to promote cultural, educational and social values and preserve the heritage and legacy of the Japanese American community.
