Why Join Fresno JACL?

JACL has a long history of contributing to the well being of Japanese Americans and other Asian Pacific Americans. From fighting anti-miscegenation laws, arguing for the creation of a Japanese- American unit in the military during WWII, lobbying for the passage of the Walter-McCarren Act that allowed for the naturalization of the Issei, marching with Martin Luther King to the campaign Redress, the JACL has been there. Our society continues to be impacted by the events of September 11, 2001, which created a worldwide climate of uncertainty and insecurity where we must reconcile the proper balance between issues of national security and our civil liberties.

The JACL monitors and responds to issues that enhance or threaten the civil and human rights of all Americans and implements strategies to effect positive social change, particularly to the Asian Pacific American community.

So why join JACL? Whether interested in civil right advocacy or cultural and community participation, JACL offers membership with an organization that operates locally, but has a national presence contributing to the welfare of the Asian Pacific American community.
